Millwood Lake -
As of Wednesday, the Army Corps of Engineers reports the lake’s elevation at 259.30 feet msl (normal conservation pool – 259.2 msl).
(Updated 11-06-2013) Mike Siefert at Millwood Lake Guide Service said the lake is 2.5 inches above normal conservation pool and falling. There is increased current of Little River with the gates releasing around 1,162 CFS as of Monday. Surface temps range from 68 to 75 degrees. Clarity and visibility are fair to good in most areas with 10-15 inches of visibility away from current. The topwater action for bass has been very good to excellent over the past 6-8 weeks, with surface breaking in various locations by bass in the 2-3 pound range. The schooling continues as the bass are feeding during most all daylight hours on large pods of threadfin and gizzard shad in lily pads, hydrilla, and creek junctions with the river. Johnson Chrome spoons (on sunny days) and gold spoons (on cloudy days) with white or smoke grub trailers continue working in the lily pads. Bass Assassin Shads and soft plastic frogs continue getting good reactions from Largemouths around vegetation. Crankbaits and Rat-L-Traps have been the number one bait for good daily limits of bass for weeks. Largemouths, spots and whites are continuing to stage at creek junctions, feeding on the large schools of shad located on points near stumps and vegetation. A lot of the lily pad stands are beginning to die back with the cooler night time temperatures. Green/live lily pad stands are still producing good fish explosions on top water and Bass Assassins. When surface feeding and breaking subsides, Bomber and XCalibur crankbaits in Foxy Lady, Citruse, and Pearl White continue working on the schools of largemouths and spotted bass. Bomber Flat As in Silver Flash and Pearl Shad will also pull up the bass from the huge schools roaming Little River in search of threadfin and gizzard shad. White bass and hybrids continue roaming Little River and are being caught on points alongside the Largemouths using Bomber and XCalibur crankbaits in Chartreuse Blush, Pearl Melon, Ghost, and Foxy Momma colors, and in grass and pads on spinner baits. Whites also continue hitting Rat-L-Traps in Chrome Black Zombie, Sexy Zombie, or Spin-Traps in Chrome blue-back colors on points and creek mouth junctions. Crappie continue to move shallow, following shad and baitfish into the creek channels. Live shiners, hair jigs and Blakemore Roadrunners continue working by vertical jigging in and around planted brush piles in 8-12 feet of water. Blue catfish are fair to good with the increase of current in Little River. Trotlines set 12-18 feet deep in the outer river bends are working using chicken livers, cut bait shad, drum, and buffalo.

(Updated 11-06-2013) Local angler George Graves said the surface water temperature is in the low 60s and the lake is clear throughout. Bass fishing is fair with only a few decent reports. The fish are mostly on secondary points in major coves and creeks. The most productive pattern has been a Texas- or Carolina-rigged worm of lizard fished across points at 10 to 20 feet deep. A few fish are coming on medium-running crankbaits early in the morning. The shad are now in the coves and major creeks, find the shad and the bass will be nearby. Best areas for bass have been between Edgewood and Shouse Ford. The productive creeks have been, Big Hill, Yancey and Brushy. Crappie fishing is fair with most of the fish coming from deeper attractors at 20 to 25 feet deep. Look for brush piles off points in major coves and drop a 2-inch grub or tube on a 1/16-oz. jig head to just above the brush. If your sonar is adjusted properly, you can see the jig on the graph. Ease around the cover slowly and give the lure very little action. Bites are very light, so pay close attention to any line movement. Try between Caddo Drive and Point Cedar.Hybrid fishing is slow with the fish scattered between Iron Mountain and Arlie Moore. The deep water pattern is over because of the cooler water. Now the fish are roaming in small schools at 15 to 20 feet down. Best pattern is trolling across points and the mouth of coves. Try deep-running crankbaits, 4-inch swim baits and small umbrella rigs loaded with 4-inch curly tail grubs or swim baits. Best colors are either white or natural shad. The best area has been around Arlie Moore and Point 28. Bream fishing is picking up with some nice fish reported from brush piles at 18 to 20 feet deep. Drop a redworm or cricket just outside the brush and near the bottom. Look for attractors in spawning coves. No reports on catfish.
