Lake Poinsett -
(Updated 11-06-2013) Lake Poinsett State Park said they are still selling plenty of minnows and anglers are happy with the amount of crappie they are catching. Crappie anglers also are buying mint green Power Bait. The bass fishermen are having fair success with topwater lures. There have been no reports on the bream and cricket sales are nonexistent. A few catfish are being caught.
Crown Lake -
(Updated 11-06-2013) Boxhound Marina (870-670-4496) said the water is at normal level and clear. There has been no report on bream or bass, but crappie and catfish are good. Crappie can be found in 15 to 20 feet of water on minnows. Catfishing is best on chicken livers right now.
Lake Frierson -
(Updated 11-06-2013) Lake Frierson State Park said the lake is about a foot low. Water temperatures continue to drop with cooler evenings and fish are feeding up for the winter. Shad are still schooling in the evenings and larger fish are still feeding on them. Crankbaits seem to be doing better than topwaters for the bass around the schools. As temperatures continue to drop, anglers may have some luck with jerk baits for bass and have a good chance of hooking a saugeye as they become more active in the cooler water. Catfishing has been fair to good, with channels and blues biting livers and dip bait, while flatheads are fair on live baits. No reports on crappie or bream.
Spring River -
(Updated 11-06-2013) Mark Crawford with Spring River Flies and Guides said water levels are at 265 cfs at the spring and water clarity is clear. This is the time to get out and enjoy the Spring River. Canoe season is over and the river is quite and beautiful. Big trout are abundant and have been hitting big Y2Ks and mayfly emergers. Stripping woolly buggers upstream can produce a savage strike from brown trout. For spin fishermen, a hot pink Trout Magnet fished below a strike indictor is hard to beat. Super glue the body to the jig hook to keep it from sliding.
(Updated 11-06-2013) Berry Brothers Guide Service said the water level on the Spring River is fishable. This is a great place to wade fish, when they are running water on the White and Norfork Rivers. Be sure to wear cleated boots and carry a wading staff. There is a lot of bedrock that can get very slick. The hot flies have been olive woolly buggers with a bit of flash, cerise and hot pink San Juan worms and Y2Ks.
