Foolin' Mother
Nature
A
look at creating the Illusion Lure
by Tom Morrison
Anglers in know understand how important it is to 'match the hatch'
when it comes to putting fish in the livewell for cash or bragging rights.
Doing so is not the easiest thing in the world to achieve. There are a
myriad of baits available that resemble a body type or species
configuration but lack that convincing look that comes into play when it
matters most - at the point of strike when the bass, walleye or your
quarry hits the bait and at weigh-in time. Fortunately for us, Illusion
Lures has created that 'match the hatch' lure for almost any situation or
body of water. Whether you're a saltwater or freshwater angler, we've got
you covered.
Mr. Bruce Compton, owner of Illusion Lures, has developed the 'skins'
that can catch those discriminating bass or walleye. You know the ones,
they sit in the clearest of water and watch your offerings pass by.
Once
those bass or walleye catch these shad, blue gill or golden shiner
imitators on radar, they are as good as got, so to speak. Natural
forage
is what it's all about and Illusion Lures has that edge over the
competition in plastics and crankbaits. The plastics line offer jerkbaits,
shad and minnow bodys while the crankbaits have the total water column
covered, from top to bottom. These aren't brightly painted, sparkling
renditions of baitfish with finish names like Monkey Puke or Clown.
These
are the real McCoy with names like Baby Bass, Rainbow Trout, Red Ear
Perch. Like Will Sonnet used to say "no brag, just fact" -
Illusion Lures aren't trendy, they just work.
I don't know how Illusion Lures has done it and as we all know, when a
fishing producer has a winning secret, mumm's the word. Suffice it to say
that the proof is in the looks and the livewell. You fish these baits like
any other you may find on the shelf, topwater jerkin', jighead for bottom
bouncing, carolina and texas rigging all work.
So whether you're a weekend warrior just looking to put fish in the
boat or a tournament angler aching to place a little higher in the food
chain, I would suggest giving Illusion Lures a test run and parking a few
in your tackle bag.
Illusion Lures are now being distributed by Riverside Lures. You can
