There is a lot of important things to know when your going out for bass. But there is one
important thing every fisherman SHOULD know. That is, the stike. Why do bass strike? Of course,
a lot of you guys out there would say " because of hunger". Well your right, 1/3rd right that is.
Bass don't only strike due to their hunger. There is 3 different reasons why bass strike.
Itching to know? Here is why bass strike:
Hunger: Bass, like humans, need to feed to survive. They usually feed on the predominant food
source in a lake. That is, anything that bass rely on to eat. Examples would be crawfish,
minnows, shad, chubs, frogs etc.
Instinct: Bass are very territorial even if they arn't actively feeding. You can often coax
bass into bitting simply by disrupting their space with the right lure. Bass usually hang
around in cover such as weed beds where there is plenty of shade and active food sources.
Anything that swims too close to their or even better, bumps into the surroundings is certain
to prompt a territorial strike.
Survival Instinct: Bass has main survival concerns. They involve getting plenty to eat,
protecting eggs and fry, and controlling habitat where food sources are most abundant.
Instinct dictates the way bass perform each of these jobs to continue their survival.
Mood: Somtimes out of sheer anger a bass will strike. When not hungry they don't view an
intruder as a natural threat, they'll often tolerate the creature's presence. But when the
intruder becomes too persistent by swimming through the hold repeatedly, bumping into nearby
structure, or simply hanging around too long, a bass begins to get irritated. This will
trigger a strike. Bass will also strike out of curiosity.
