Known as one of many “creature” or “critter” baits,
Gambler’s Bacon Rind was invented by bass pro Basil Bacon,
one of the first pros to perfect the flipping technique. This lure
looks like a cross between a worm and a skirted grub. No matter what
you think it looks like, bass look at it as a meal.
Available in three sizes (6" Bacon Rind, 4" Baby
Bacon Rind, and the 3" Bacon Bit), the Bacon Rind is a versatile
bait. You can cast it like a worm and either swim or hop it back to
the boat. You can also Carolina rig it and cover water or you can pitch
and/or flip into heavy cover. However you use it, it can catch big
bass!
With a specially designed twin curly tail, and small
wings on the sides, it flutters down through cover, drops in front
of a fish's nose and asks to be eaten. Davy Hite used a Junebug colored
Bacon Rind in heavy vegetation to help him win the 1999 BASS Masters
Classic on the Louisiana Delta.
I like a 3” Bacon Bit on the end of my Carolina
Rig in the Spring and Fall when I match the hatch with size and color. During
the heat of the summer, I like to rig a 6” Bacon Rind
with a 3/8 ounce Florida Rig and pitch it around cutbanks, laydowns
and riprap. It’s a nice variation from a curl or ribbon
tailed worm.
So, if you’re looking for a bass getter, try
one of the Gambler Bacon Rind “critters.” Check them out

be sure to hang on tight to your rod and reel!
