In the Northern
reaches of our country, cabin fever is beginning to take hold. While there
are fishing and boat shows to attend and fishing shows on TV to watch,
it's not the same as actually going fishing. This is a great time to take
stock of what you carried with you last year and determine how useful it
really is.
At the end of the season, I take everything out of my Ranger
518 DVX and give my storage compartments a good cleaning or vacuuming.
Since I use Tackle Logic bags and Plano 3700 series boxes, everything
is already in its place and easily placed on a shelf in my garage.
Before
it goes back into the boat in the spring, I will think about the
baits and techniques I actually used last season what worked consistently
on
the bodies of water I fish. Those baits will be given a high priority,
while others will be left behind.
We are all guilty of carrying too
much stuff - whether it's in our boats or tackle boxes. By systematically
going
through everything, you will minimize the amount of stuff you carry
while maximizing your fishing productivity - since you aren't going
through
everything
in the boat to find something else to throw!
With the versatility
of the Plano 3700's and Tackle Logic bags, I can gear up specifically
for
each
location and bring only the lures and terminal tackle I need. As
I mentioned in my article Outside The Box, I have either boxes or bags
of lures specifically
set up for certain techniques (like C- rigging or drop shotting),
which
I can grab and place either in my Ranger or my Chevy Silverado.
So, if cabin fever has begun to set in take a serious look at your tackle
and
weed out the things that aren't being used. When the fishing
season starts again and you have more time to fish (since you're organized)
you'll be
glad you took the time!
