For several years, I have
been looking for a 15 pound test monofilament line to use with light
plastic and top water baits. I had been using 14 pound Trilene XT;
But, I did not like the feeling it provided me. I then switched back
to 17 pound Trilene XT, which I had been using before the change.
The problems I had with the 17 pound Trilene XT: was hard to throw
light plastic and top water baits very far, high bouncy and large
line diameter. However, the advantages of the 17 pound Trilene XT
which are great abrasion resistances, low stretch, great knot strength
and strong enough to tow my boat. My dislikes where offset by the
advantages, and I continued using the 17 pound Trilene XT for theses
baits. I felt that in clear water the larger diameter was costing
me a few bites and in windy conditions these light baits were hard
to throw; But, I liked the security of 17 pound Trilene XT’s
strength.
Last
year, Trilene came out with a new line called Hi-Test. It is small
diameter line with extremely high pound strength. After fishing the
15 pound Hi-Test line on shell beds, rock piles, concrete piles and
bridge foundations, I was surprised at how well this line performed.
The abrasion resistance surpassed my expectations and the actual break
strength is as advertised, all in a line diameter equal to 10 pound
Trilene XT. The line cast well with the light baits I wanted to throw,
and the 15 pound Hi-Test has performed well in cooler weather (temperatures
around 38 to 42 degrees) too. The actual break strength of the Trilene
15 pound Hi-Test is 29 pounds (see chart below). It is available in
clear and electric green in 10 to 130 pound line sizes. If you need
a smaller diameter line with great abrasion resistance and extremely
strong break strength then you need try Trilene Hi-Test. I think you
will be very pleased
with how it performs.
