Falcon Lures
Western Line of Products
Product Review
by Jeff Bruhl
Clear, deep lakes are loaded with bass. Clear water,
deep grass beds, and rocky points make western lakes like Lake Amistad
challenging places
to fish. Falcon Lures produces a line of lures for clear water and
western fishing styles. Falcon Western Big Eyez™ Spinnerbaits
and Big Eyez™ Rattling Flipping grass jigs work in many clear
water lakes as well as home waters around Lafayette, Louisiana.
Falcon’s Western Spinnerbait comes in several head sizes with
colors and blades setups for clear western lakes. Skirts are clear
and iridescent strands that mimic shad and bream colors. Blades for
western lakes are downsized for faster retrieves and less vibration.
Dirty water requires bigger blades for more flash and vibration to
help bass target the lure. Clear water in western lakes offers visibility
of twenty feet or more. Down sizing is a common technique applied in
drop shot and finesse styles. Smaller blades offer enough flash when
the bait is retrieved slow or fast. The spinnerbait sports a big hook
to handle the larger fish found out west. Overall, the Falcon Western
Big Eyez™ Spinnerbait handles any clear water situation.
Some western lakes have grass. Many anglers know grass
equals bass. Grass in western lakes usually grows as deep as thirty
feet. Depending
on the lake’s water level, grass beds may grow to the surface.
Often, the beds are covered with as much as fifteen feet of water.
Heavy jigs are needed to get down quickly and penetrate heavy grass
beds. Falcon Rattlin’ Grass jigs are designed to accomplish a
quick fall and pierce the deep cover of the grass. Heads range from
sizes to hop over the top of the grass beds or punch through the thickest
cover. When the sun shines, bass head for the shade and protection
of the grass. Buried in the grass, bass become hard to reach. One ounce
or heavier heads punch through the grass to search below the canopy
of the grass. Skirt colors match water clarity and forage found around
grass. The head design slides through the grass and prevents grass
from fouling the retrieve. Large, sharp hooks are great for the bigger
bass found in some of the western lakes. Add your favorite trailer
and you are ready to tackle the grass.
Western lakes with clear water offer many possibilities and challenges.
Falcon Lures provide several options for clear water fishermen. Wacky
style hooks, spinnerbaits, and jigs come in a variety to deal with
any water color, cover, or fishing situation.
