Product Review
by Jeff Bruhl
The makers of The Duce Spinnerbait add several tournament tested products
to their product line. Rockhead jigs and Phase II spinnerbaits are
great additions to any tackle box. Listening to team pros and spending
valuable time on the water helps the Alabama company create a new line
of baits.
The Rockhead
jig is a round, lead head jig. The barb keeps any plastic in place.
The strong Mustad Ultra Point hook handles any species of bass, many
styles of plastics, and just about any cover situation. Heads come
in many different colors and sizes from 1/8 black to 5/16 red.
Jig heads are important part of any angler’s
arsenals. A small six inch finesse worm put together with a Rockhead
jig is a great way to fill a limit, fish docks, rock piles, or offer
plastics in a different way. Straight tail worms, lizard, tubes, and
other plastics are easy to use on these jig heads. The hook is strong
enough to use with heavier pound test but sharp enough for the lightest
finesse rig. Straight tail worm like a Sizmic Shaker worm and a Rockhead
jig are the bread and butter combination of jig head fishing. Rigging
the head through the plastic to create a weedless bait is step one.
Slowly shaking the rod tip as the bait rests on the bottom is the next
step. Boat docks, rocks, and brush piles are great areas to try these
rigs. If the water is clear and the cover is sparse, the sharp Mustad
hook lets the angler drop down in line size. From finesse fishing to
heavy cover, the Rockhead jig handles the fish and many unique situations.
Phase II is
something unlike anything on the spinnerbait market. The bait has two
arms with blades on each. However, instead of arms that are apart,
the lure has two swivels and two blades along the same frame. The blade
that circles the wire is exchanged for an additional wire, a swivel,
and blade along the shaft of the spinnerbait normal blade arm. This
bait is all about vibration. Whether the angler likes to wake a spinnerbait
or slow roll, the Phase II kickouts the vibration but stay true on
the retrieve. Many spinnerbaits roll over when a high speed retrieve
is used. Phase II run straight at any speed.
Give B & M Bait (1-866-you-duce) a call to order the new line
of baits. Grab a pack of finesse worms and a few of your favorite colored
Rockhead jigs. They are a great way to rig any plastic. Phase II spinnerbaits
is a true running spinnerbait that does not roll and has plenty of
fish catching vibration. Some days it pays to be different.
