Around the mid 1980s, Euclid Tregre designed a spinnerbait for south Louisiana.  His design soon evolved into a product lure sought by many anglers in the Donaldsonville area. This design would become the legendary Rumba Doll Spinnerbait.

Rumba Doll is a Louisiana product manufactured in Lockport. A lure designed by local fishermen is an advantage for anyone who fishes the waters of Louisiana.  The homework is in the package. "The blade design makes the bait different from any other spinnerbait on the market”, states owner of Rumba Doll, Craig Adams.

The blade has a slight bend at the top of the blade. This distinct fabrication makes the lure different from any other product on the market in south Louisiana. When you add a thin wire form, the bait gives off a tremendous amount of vibration and flash. Add a quality hook and Sampo swivel to the lure and Rumba Doll is one of the finest choices in spinnerbaits on the market.

A thin wire spinnerbait has several advantages over heavy wire forms. First, it increases the vibration of the blades. Vibration is the key when fishing for bass. Second, thin wire baits allow the hook to penetrate the fish’s mouth after the strike.

“The Delta Farm area of Lafourche Parish and Lake Des Allemands provides an excellent place for testing ideas and baits,” continues Craig. Sometimes you never know if you will catch a redfish or a bass in Delta Farm due to the brackish water.  Not only are spinnerbaits utilized to catch bass but redfish also are attracted to the lure.

Local anglers can input ideas and designs to Rumba Doll. Craig has no problems with small order requests. Although he prefers sending lures to a local tackle store, special orders can be filled online or by phone. Whether an angler needs 1 bait or 100 hundred, specific blades and skirt colors can be made.

Rumba Doll makes other products like flipping jigs and clip-on spinner forms. Use clip on spinners for fresh and saltwater species. Redfish and bass will strike a jig head with spinner forms. Plastic lures like cocaho tails or Deadly Dudleys are prime attachments for the forms. Popular south Louisiana colors are purple and white or black and chartreuse.

“A good tip when using a plastic tail is to cut the tail in half,” adds Craig. “Your hook ups will go up when you try this.”

Small Louisiana companies like Rumba Doll are a vital part of the economy; however, they provide more than economics to an area.  Rumba Doll not only passes the knowledge of south Louisiana fishing through their products, but also provides anglers the option of requesting customized lures to meet their particular needs by contacting their local tackle store or calling Rumba Doll directly.

The future of Rumba Doll Lures is bright. Phone- 504-303-8762 for more information or go to their website to purchase lures with only a few clicks. The site will include pictures of the products available, fishing tips and information, and contact information.

Craig is also excited about the new spinnerbait on the design table. “ The new life-like head will feature eyes and gills in multiple colors,” he adds. In addition, Craig accepts special orders for spinnerbaits. If you want bait with bigger blades, certain colors, or other secrets, give the company a call. Along with the other products in the company’s arsenal, Rumba Doll will bring in the money at your next tournament.
